The Plight of the 10-Man Guild
Ok wiseguy, sounds like a lot of QQ but not a lot of Pew Pew. Where’s your proposed solution?
Honestly, I thought you’d never ask. It’s simple really. 15-man raids. Do away with this 25-man crap. 15-man raids just make more sense.
They scale naturally from 5-man instances and 10-man raids. Adding 5 people is a lot easier than adding 15. If you’re already running a successful 25-man guild you’re probably big enough to handle 2 15-man raids. Keep the difficulty and tactics the same, just up the numbers. No more gimmicky requirements please (ahem, Razuvious).
I’d also suggest the following for loot: keep the drops the same in both sizes, just drop more of it in the bigger raid. Mix up the ilevels on gear within the raid instead so that the harder bosses drop the better loot. 25-man Flame Leviathan shouldn’t drop better loot than 10-man Mimiron. Hardmodes would have their own loot tables of course. This could also allow color palette swaps on gear to designate spec instead of tier (I love having awesome armor but hate looking like I dressed myself in the dark).
Wow, you’re a genius.
I know right? Obviously we won’t be seeing this for Cataclysm as they’ve already announced their plans to continue offering 25-man raids in WoW’s latest expansion. I feel very strongly though that Blizzard would benefit immensely from such a controversial change, just as they did when they scrapped 40-mans. I’m sure I might get some opposition from the hardcore, but is there anyone out there that really misses the rigamarole of 40-man raids (sans the nostalgia factor)? Would you really miss 25s?
