I was wondering if you’ve taken any ganders at copyright/fair use/derivative works and all that mumbo jumbo.

I’ve considered breaking into the fanart/crafting world and the conflicting information on actual copyright is boggling my mind. I’d like to do something akin to what you’re doing with your art — selling customized character art based on your WoW character — but of course, I don’t draw, I make things out of clay.

I don’t want to get hit with any cease and desist notices, so I figured I’d look around and try and find other WoW crafters and see if they had any perspective on the “fair use” issue.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any insight.

I went to purchase and it said it was sold out! Do you think you will do this again? I would love to get one done from not only myself, but for my cousins toon as well.

I appreciate that it has a CC license on it, but the “No Derivative Works” portion means that I can’t modify it for use in an avatar for a forum, for example. If that’s your intended use, okay, but as it stands, the license limits how I could use my avatar.

Were you to move to a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial license, I would have to give you credit still, but I could at least modify it for use in my personal non-commercial works, such as avatars or signature blocks, etc.

Mind you, we’re talking purely academically right now, because I can’t afford the $35 right now — but possibly in a week or two, and for as much as I absolutely love your artwork and want my character made up like this, without the rights to use it in non-commercial works, I’m hesitant to buy.
